food and water

  • Chickens need fresh clean water. The water has to be changed daily to keep the chooks healthy.

  • Chickens eat grain or chicken pellets that you can purchase at a pet store. They also eat kitchen scraps.

  • Chickens are omnivores so they eat meat and vegetables.

  • My chooks will hunt for lizards, frogs and insects to eat in the back yard.

  • They will also eat lots of grass and weed seeds they find in the back yard.

  • Keep your chooks out of the vegetable patch or they will eat everything and dig up all the plants. they need to be kept fed and watered every day and allowed to forage for green food

  • if you go away on holiday, you will need someone to take care of your chooks

  • their coop needs to be kept clean and dry so it doesn't get smelly and your chooks stay healthy

  • chicken poo smells when you stand in it

  • you can't have roosters in suburban backyards because they are too noisy

  • hens can be noisy too, especially when they are hungry
