The real name the chicken called Whiz in my books, is Fatty. I called her Fatty because she was a very big and healthy chicken when I first bought her. I changed her name to Whiz in the book because she is a computer whiz and calling someone Fatty is not very polite. In my books Whiz crows like a rooster and lays eggs like a hen, and doesn't have any specific gender. The real Fatty is a Sussex breed of hen and she doesn't crow. The top hen of a flock of hens without a rooster will often crow though. Shorty has been the top hen for a long time and will often stand on the back verandah and crow in the morning to get my attention, especially if she is hungry.
